Any doubt I had as to whether Felt had done the appropriate thing dissipated when I heard Buchanan bleating like a stuck pig about Felt's "traitorous" actions. The First Amendment is a wonderful thing, but it does mean you need to risk crossing the path of Buchanan, who is a hateful racist uncaring evil stain on the Constitution. Buchanan is just pissed that the Nixon Gang got caught.Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06313995886501516230noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3187760.post-1117729476588897702005-06-02T09:24:00.000-07:002005-06-02T09:24:00.000-07:00I don't know if I would go so far as to call Felt ...I don't know if I would go so far as to call Felt a hero. If you recall, back in the 60s and 70s, the FBI wasn't exactly doing a lot of nice stuff and Felt himself, the number 2 guy, was convicted for bypassing warrants in his investigation of the Weather Underground. (Not that I have any kind thoughts towards the Weather Underground, but...) No one denies either that his motives in passing info onto Woodward had as much to do with bureaucratic infighting as it did with a noble dedication to saving the nation. That said, however, I cannot believe the unbelievable and desperate hatchet job being done on the guy by the cable news channels, particularly MSNBC. I swear to God I am not exaggerating that everytime I turn on one of the these channels and they are covering the story...and I do mean EVERY TIME... there is at least one ex-Nixon hatchet man after another trying to tear this guy down: Pat Buchanan, David Gergen, and most incredibly of all, that lying, criminal scumbag thug, G. Gordon Liddy of all people.Do any of these guys refute the veracity of Felt's information? No. It's all about him speaking out of turn, of not going through the proper channels. Buchanan even calls him "a traitor." It is so outrageous. Look back on the situation: with Hoover dead, Nixon is trying to take over and politicize the FBI. Is he going to go to the Justice Department? The attorney general was another criminal, John Mitchell. What do they think was going to happen to this information and to Felt himself? These guys can't be this naive, so I have to assume they are slinging a sack of b.s. out of sheer bitterness. I'm just angry at these networks for giving them so much air time. But what do you expect from the media, the so-called "Liberal" media.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
